Kind of needed something like this after the slog-athon of "Harrow the Ninth"
This was a fairly light, very fast-paced space opera, as indeed was the first of the series. This wasn't in any way as enjoyable as that, though, largely because the independent voices from that book are all somehow lost.
More to the point, however, for a multi-pov book, the different points of view are all the same; there isn't anything which ever reads as distinctive or interesting. There is a good story in there, but the chapters are all vanishingly short, and this disrupts the reading experience to a massive degree. It's the Dan Brown approach, and every chapter ends on just enough of a cliffhanger to make you turn the page.
I did keep turning the pages, however, and I did keep wanting to know what happens next. So there's enough here to make for an enjoyable, but not interesting read.
